About Elsa
Playwright, director and musical theatre producer.
Trained in theatre, singing and dance, and holding a Master’s degree in Philosophy, Elsa Bontempelli began her career as a stage performer before gradually turning to writing, directing and creating her own productions.
Her years as a performer, particularly at the Lido de Paris, have had a lasting influence on her artistic world, where storytelling naturally intertwines with music, movement and the aesthetics of cabaret.
This dual background in the performing arts and philosophy now informs a distinctive stage language at the crossroads of musical theatre, visual performance and accessible popular entertainment. In each of her productions, she seeks to bring emotion, ideas and entertainment into dialogue, creating different layers of meaning for the audience.
With a strong interest in new forms of storytelling, Elsa Bontempelli also develops the visual worlds of her productions using digital tools and 3D modelling. She creates part of the video content and visual environments herself, integrating contemporary technology into the storytelling rather than treating it as a separate element.
In 2017, she founded EL Production, a company dedicated to creating productions that bring together theatre, music, cultural heritage and visual innovation. She has written, adapted or directed several original productions, including Les Vilaines, Victor Lustig – The Man Who Sold the Eiffel Tower, The Nutcracker and Swan Lake.
Her work seeks to make live performance accessible to audiences of all ages, creating productions that bring generations together through powerful stories, rich musical worlds and immersive visual experiences.
She is currently Artistic Director of EL Production.
